Against all odds, its a girl!
Desdemona, our beautiful black April daughter, who was one of the alpacas attacked by dogs last December did the almost impossible today. She presented us with a fantastic light fawn Aristophanese daughter. This is most certainly the last Aristophanes offspring there will be- he was killed in that same dog attack. The new baby will be called Bianca.

Welcome 2009!
2008 was not a good year for us. The drought continued. Our vegetable garden did not do much and since we are on a well we did not dare water much. The pasture for the alpacas went much the same way, much to the dismay of the pacas who didn’t get out much.
I retired in July which gave me a chance to get caught up on the barn cleaning, and watch my 401k decline daily. The barn work went slowly as the alpacas were not out on the pastures. We had three crias this fall: Little Joe, Sapphire, and Robin

In October I had a serious accident with a rototiller. I spent nearly a month in the hospital. I am still hoping to be pretty much recovered by shearing season.
a few days after my arrival home we had a dog attack. We lost Aristophanes and a two year old female. In addition several young females were injured. They seem to be recovering well.
On the plus side we have had several nice fall rains, if they continue through spring we should have a much better year in 2009.
