Farm

We specialize in raising animals with award winning fleeces. While nature does provide us with a few all-white animals, primarily, our herd is primarily made up of naturally colored alpacas. Their colors range from pale beige,to warm brown, to solid black. We are especially proud of our black fleeces, as they have an excellent hand, and constantly are awarded the highest honors in fleece shows.

Shearing is usually done in May, and we sell our fleeces through our online store and by appointment at the farm. Visit our events page to see the lastest shearing schedule. Fleeces that are not sold to handspinners are sent to a local mill. The mill spins the yarn, which is also available through our online store, and at various events we attend annually.

Check out our section on females, males, stud services, geldings and packages on Alpaca Nation marketplace.

About 15 Huacaya Alpacas reside on Lorien Farm in the mountains of Western North Carolina. As alpacas are originally from the Andes of South America they seem to thrive in this area. For more on alpacas and their history from the Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association, click here.

Shearing day is public affair, so feel free to visit that weekend for a chance to get a hands-on experience with the alpacas.
